Dương Thụy, an architect by profession, began painting after a setback in his life.

Initially, he explored this new artistic path with watercolors, painting landscapes of Vietnam and elsewhere—what he calls the outside world. Gradually, he came to understand that art is a realm with much broader boundaries, and his landscapes transformed, increasingly focusing on the inner self: his thoughts, his wounds, his feelings.

Today, he explores the human condition using acrylic and oil paints, through a singular style that comes straight from the gut.

It was in the eastern part of Saigon, in a residential neighborhood, that the artist opened the doors of her studio to us—a two-story house where the walls are covered with her works. These works give the space a fascinating sense of life, allowing us to discover and understand Dương Thụy’s artistic journey. It is in this space that the artist paints and reflects on art, accompanied by a speaker playing classical music.
